Ever wondered what happens inside a real lab?

In April, the Youth Science Club got an exclusive guided tour of the Viral Zoonosis Research Unit at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Helsinki. Researchers opened their doors and minds to show how science is born, from concept to discovery.

The youth rotated through four different interactive workstations. There was a workstation where kids had the great opportunity to check through microscopes virus-infected mammalian cells, another area where they learned what immunofluorescent assays area and one where they discovered about pH and its changes, and a last workstation where our young minds reflected on how diseases can be spread, in particular about insects, that can act as disease vectors 🧬

It was such an exciting full-immersion afternoon into science, inside a real lab!

A huge thank you to the researchers and staff at the Viral Zoonosis Research Unit, especially to our member, Vinaya Venkat, for making this event possible! 🧬✨
